A team of doctors and nurses would be available 24x7 to attend to adult and pediatric emergencies, by assessing and treating patients with serious injuries or illnesses. The department is geared to receive medical illnesses including trauma; with adult and pediatric beds, a connected and advanced Radiology Unit/Imaging Centre, and an Ambulance Unit. While 'urgent care' is available in other AMH facilities in the country, for Accidents and Emergencies, it is to KHAMH, A'Ali, that patients can be brought. Patients can be treated for, among other things, -Loss of consciousness -Acute confused state and fits that are not stopping -Persistent, severe chest pain -Breathing difficulties -Severe bleeding that cannot be stopped

The Department of ENT provides a broad spectrum of surgical as well as medical services for disorders related to ear, nose, throat, head and neck. Clinics are located at Manama hospital, Amwaj clinic, Saar clinic, and Riffa clinic. The team of ENT specialists uses the latest equipment and technologies to perform endoscopic nasal surgeries, ear and cochlear implants. The team has the expertise of treating patients in different age groups and with problems related to ear, nose and throat. Imaging provision equipment like CAT scan, MRI, Neck Ultra sonogram, Fluoroscopy for swallowing assessment are all available. The General Practice Department continues to be the Nerve Center of the American Mission Hospital. Individual experiences range from 5-30 years, some with additional skills in Surgery, ENT, Pain Management, Anesthesia, Pulmonology, OB/GYN, Infection Control & Health Promotion, Kidney Dialysis, Leprosy Care, Anti-Smoking Campaign, Community Clinics, Counseling, Leadership and Management. The GPs run the Urgent Care Unit, attend on out-patients and also admit in-patients to the ward if necessary. Our members stretch from the Far East to the United Kingdom, speaking English, Arabic, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Urdu etc.

As a subspecialty of Pediatrics, Neonatology, consists of medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty and usually practised in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). At our A'Ali branch (KHAMH), we have a full fledged department, with 18 NICU beds. Our Ob-Gyn or our pediatrics doctors can give you more information if you need, about the services offered. If a newborn is premature, or has a serious illness, injury, or birth defect, our neonatologist(s) may assist you at the time of delivery and in the subsequent care of your newborn. In the event of any problem being identified in the baby before your baby is born, a neonatologist may become involved to consult with your obstetrician to help in your baby’s care during your pregnancy; and even after delivery and soon-after. Vascular medicine focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of circulatory problems within the blood vessels, notably the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system. Common diseases include peripheral artery disease, lymphedema, and carotid artery stenosis. This department of the hospital focuses on non-invasive problems involving the circulatory system outside of the heart. These problems may involve arteries, which deliver blood from the heart to the tissues etc. The hospital has a department of vascular surgery, as well.

KHAMH, A'Ali is equipped to offer Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. It is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a potential risk of scuba diving. It also helps in wound healing. In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased 2 to 3 times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather much more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure. This extra oxygen helps fight bacteria. It also triggers the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote wound healing. Hyperbaric oxygen enhances wound healing by fibroblast and capillary proliferation, suppress infection, reduce edema, reverse CNS damage from carbon monoxide and cyanide poisoning, and reduce clostridial alpha toxins. Aviation Medicine and Baro Medicine are complementary services.

We provide our dietary services to all in-patients 7 days a week, and 6 days a week for out-patients. In-patient Nutrition Services Proper nutrition is esential in the treatment and recovery of a patient during their hospital stay. We ensure that the patient’s nutritional care plan meets individualized needs during their hospital stay and their recovery. Menus can be customized to fit any order and to satisfy patient preferences within that order. We work closely with physicians, nurses and other professional staff to meet a person’s individual needs. Out-patient Nutrition Services The out patient nutritional counseling program focuses on helping individuals learn to make healthy food choices and lifestyle changes. Patients at high nutrition risk are monitored, nutritional goals are reviewed and education is provided. Weight management, weight gain, eating disorders, diabetes, hypertention and cholestrol counseling are also available. We also offer short and long term packages to outpatients who are at high nutrition risk, especially those struggling with weight related issues. This package offers personalised one-on-one attention to help achieve the goal. A physician referral is not required for individual outpatient nutrition counseling.

The Obstetrics and gynecology department has progressively developed over the past years. This stands as a reference point to the scores of citizens of Bahrain who were either born or had a son or daughter born here. We have our 9 full time consultants and 2 part time consultants, providing premium health care services to women in Bahrain. Our team of qualifies medical professionals offers a wide range of expertise in different fields of obstetrics and gynecology. We have our main center at Manama, along with 3 satellite centers located at Amwaj, Saar and Riffa. The outpatient clinic is open 7 days a week and is visited by about 2,000 patients a month. In obstetrics, facilities included are pre pregnancy counselling, all antenatal checkups, post-natal checkups, contraception counselling. High risk pregnancies also being managed at our centre, including Pregnancy with gestational diabetes, Pregnancy induced hypertension, multiple pregnancies, preterm labour etc. 24-hour emergency services available. Labour room and operation theatres are available round the clock. Along with normal vaginal deliveries (including painless labor), facility of instrumental deliveries is also being provided. The pediatricians are readily available for assistance and the anesthesiologists are available for patients who opt for procedures like epidural analgesia. The delivery package helps women to get the best care at a reasonable cost. In gynecology, well woman health screening and breast checkups are conducted. Cancer screening forms a part of this clinical work. We do pap smears; abnormal smears are treated by colposcopy and directed biopsies. All major surgeries like hysterectomies and ovarian surgeries are done as well as minor ones like biopsies and endometrial samplings can be both diagnostic and operative laparoscopic procedures, including ovarian cystectomies and management of ectopic pregnancies are carried out. The day case surgical unit offers an advantage of a quick turnaround thereby reducing cost and extended hospital stay. Most of the laparoscopic surgeries are done as day case surgeries. Infertility patients form a major bulk of our patients. All kinds of infertility treatment including IUI are available here. Besides these, now fetal medicine services are also being provided at our hospital. The Department of Radiology at American Mission Hospital is a dynamic department with highly experienced Radiologists, highly skilled technical and administrative staff, and excellent equipment. The Department takes pride in consistently targeting excellence in clinical care and teaching as its top priorities. The Department is organized into sections of Routine Radiography, Special Radiography, Mammography, Ortho-pan-tomography, Ultrasound Imaging and C.T. Scan imaging. Apart from this we have a Mobile X-Ray unit for inpatient Radiography and a Mobile Image Intensifier to guide procedures in the Operation theatre. Our Radiologists are acknowledged as experts in their area of specialty interest with widely recognized contributions to clinical care, in house education of staff as well as teaching students from Medical universities of Bahrain. We currently have 4 Radiologists, 7 Technologists, 3 Assistants, 1 Transcriptionist and 1 Receptionist, all as full time staff. All routine radiological procedures and ultrasounds, except conventional x-ray exams, are by prior appointment. Patients attending from courtesy physicians and other facilities with a referral for examination will be treated in the same manner as patients originating from AMH. The Radiography images are processed by Computerised Radiography system (CR). All the diagnostic images are loaded into Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) for review and reporting. All Physicians can also view the images as an when they are processed through ‘Mini Pacs’ system in their respective offices almost instantly. Established as a separate facility in 1984, the AMH Laboratory provided basic clinical laboratory examinations and has expanded its services and operations over the years. The expansion extended to the satellite branches (Saar, Amwaj and Riffa clinics) with the introduction of an Emergency Laboratory to help our clinicians in satellite sites with basic lab tests necessary to help in the final diagnosis and hence improve patients’ outcomes and satisfaction. At Manama, Saar, and now in A'Ali (KHAMH), we provide 24-hour pediatric care. And parents with healthcare needs for their small children can approach us, at these places, at any time. American Mission Hospital pharmacy is located in the Outpatients clinic area. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including fridays and holidays to serve the community of Bahrain. The AMH Pharmacy is computerized and all medicines are priced as per the Ministry of Health pricing. The pharmacy is manned by 12 pharmacists working round the clock to provide service to patients at all times.

Physiotherapy is a healthcare support service, which assists the medical service in dealing with different aspects of treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of disorders utilizing exercise and electrotherapy procedures. It begins with an assessment of the patient’s condition including medical history and physical examination. Physiotherapist helps people of all ages who have physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. We relieve pain, rehabilitate muscles alignment and increase mobility in order to promote health and well-being. We educate the patients in proper body alignment as postures and work habits. The patient’s education is a key to success of the physiotherapists. Our physiotherapist is trained to treat symptoms of injury and disease by physical means, heat and pressure. When doctors recommend a patient for physiotherapy, the therapist evaluates the patient and plans a line of treatment. In AMH we use a combination of two or modalities lasting for 45 minutes to one hour, on alternate days for 3 – 5 sessions. In case of acute injury like wry neck, treatment is given daily.

Rheumatology is a sub-specialty under our internal medicine department that deals with autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases happen when the immune system attacks its self, affecting multiple organs. These diseases present commonly with joint pain, skin rash, back pain, unexplained fever or fatigue. In addition to diagnosing and managing these conditions, a rheumatologist can also perform procedures like fluid aspiration from joints and steroid injection in arthritic joints or trigger finger if indicated. AMH has experienced and competent general surgeons presently staffing the surgical department at AMH who offer a broad range of surgical services, ranging from laparoscopic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, breast (cancer) surgery and other procedures like sterilization, removal of lumps and circumcision. Endoscopic diagnostic procedures including gastroscopy and colonoscopy (video-examinations inside the esophagus, stomach and large bowel) are offered at the surgical department. Emphasis is also placed on preventative medicine by screening for colon and prostate cancer and routine breast examinations. The Operating theater and the Anesthesiology department, with its up to date facilities, compliment the services offered. TheAmerican Mission Hospital also provides other surgical procedures on a routine basis. The surgeries are performed by our General, ENT, Obstetric and Orthopedic surgeons.
